DIXIE FELLOWSHIP 2009
        24-26 April 2009

What is Dixie?

Simply put: fun. Dixie is event that is annually sponsored by Southern Region Section 5 for Arrowmen in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.  Responsibility for hosting is rotated amongst the Lodges Comprising our Section. This year it is located at Camp Bud Schiele in Rutherfordton, NC.

At Dixie, Arrowmen compete with other Arrowmen from three states to see who best fulfills the purposes of the Order.  There are ceremony competitions to make sure the Lodges are maintaining the tradition of our honored Order; administrative competitions to make sure the Lodges due the duties they pledge to do for their Troops and Councils; and there are Quest events which test Scouts personal  adherence to high ideals of the OA and Scouting as a whole (read as “have a boat load of fun competing to show who’s the best.”)

I may have lost most of the youth at this point in the article…HEY! LISTEN!  Hopefully that will get your attention. I’ve probably sold your parents with the last paragraph so here’s the real scoop. Dixie is essentially a giant party. Friday: night go to a concert, followed by a party; Saturday:  play around all day, shout your lungs out to show who is the best, go to another party; Sunday: Go to church,  shout some more, get awarded for shouting, come home. So just come already

Our Theme

For those who do not know, every year a theme is selected from many others in order to give our Lodge a central theme to rally behind and hopefully lead us to victory in the Spirit competition.

This year our Dixie committee has selected a our theme to be “Sixties Dixie.” Normal sixties themed items will abound. As with every Dixie, the Lodge relishes the idea of brothers embracing the theme and taking upon themselves to make it seem that much more real.

As with all parts of history, the sixties had their share of unscout-like activities, and the Bob White Lodge does not condone these and would appreciate cooperation from our brothers making sure the event is respectable, so that all can enjoy.

We are here to have fun so let’s do just that.

Campership  Opportunity

Each year a fortunate member of the Bob White Lodge receives a Nick Van Duyn Memorial Campership for the Section Conclave known as Dixie. Nick Van Duyn will always be a cherished member of the Bob White Lodge. Nominations for the campership are to be completed by the Unit Leader and submitted to the Council Office by the Monday before the Section Conclave with a short statement as to why the youth deserves the Campership. The Lodge Key Three will select a recipient and will notify the youth and the person who nominated the youth. The Campership is designed to allow a first year Lodge member who has not previously had the opportunity to attend a Section Conclave to do so. If the youth has already paid his registration fee at the time of selection, the Council Office will refund his fee by the normal Boy Scout accounting methods. The only requirement for the youth is that he writes a letter to the benefactors describing his experiences. The benefactors choose to remain anonymous, but deeply appreciate reading about the youth’s experience.

Dixie Rules

Code of Conduct

The success or failure of our fellowship depends on the conduct of each individual

brother that attends. As an Arrowman, I understand and will observe all rules and regulations

of the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scouts of America, and will observe the reasonable

demands made of me. As a member of the Order of the Arrow, I will:

1. Observe the Scout Law, Scout Oath, and the Obligation of the Order of the Arrow.

2. Wear my officially designated uniform as required throughout the fellowship, specifi

cally during travel to and from the fellowship, during all shows, during Saturday

evening supper, and during the chapel service/awards ceremony.

3. Attend the planned and general training sessions.

4. Confine the trading and swapping of Scout related items to free periods and in design

nated areas only.

5. Be personally responsible for the breakage, damage, or loss of property.

6. Observe quiet hours and lights-out hours.

7. Keep my quarters clean and dispose of trash in the proper places.

8. Not change my officially assigned area without permission.

9. Allow no unregistered person to occupy my quarters.

10. Shirts and shoes will be worn at all times in accordance with BSA policy.

11. No alcohol will be allowed on camp property.

12. Observe BSA tobacco use policy.

13. Respect the fellowship rules prohibiting the use of fireworks and firearms.

14. Not buy nor sell items at the fellowship other than at the Trading Post or as authorized by the Council of Chiefs. I understand that the Trading Post is the only official source for the purchase of items.

15. Not to leave camp without permission of the fellowship headquarters.

16. Remember that I am a guest of Eswau Huppeday Lodge, of the Piedmont Council, and Camp Bud Schiele.

17. Park only in designated areas.

18. Abide by the BSA Guide to Safe Scouting.

I These are the rules for the Dixie Fellowship. Thunderstand that the failure to abide by these rules, as approved by the Council of Chiefs, could result in my removal from the fellowship and camp premises.

These are the rules for the Dixie Fellowship. These rules have been mandated by Section.  The Bob White Lodge had the responsibilityto report any actions that break these rules. Once an offense has been reported, the Lodge does not decide the punishment. If Section decides that a youth is going home, the youth is going home, one way or another. If a parent or guardian cannot drive to North Carolina to get the youth, or the youth cannot drive himself home, an adult will have to accompany the youth back to our Council and the parents or youth will have to reimburse the adult leader for the gas.

With these rules in mind, the Bob White Lodge reserves the right to issue new rules on site. These rules will likely be a requirement to wear spirit items at all times, but may include things for safety to reasons. Youth are to listen to youth and adult leaders and follow the chain of command. The Lodge can also remove a youth from the site, and the same scenario will apply, however, all things stated here are subject to change at the discretion of the Scout Executive.
